Fertility treatment and Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART)

Purpose of Fertility Treatment

Fertility issues are generally defined as the inability to achieve pregnancy after one to two years of regular, unprotected intercourse.

The decision to pursue fertility treatment is based on a comprehensive diagnosis and evaluation of factors affecting both partners, including ovulatory and ovarian function, sperm quality, and the condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes.

Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART)

When natural conception is difficult, assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be selected.

These advanced techniques involve fertilization and embryo culture outside the body, with cryopreservation of embryos, oocytes, or sperm performed as needed to support the achievement of pregnancy.

General Treatment Process

1.Initial Examination and Diagnosis

Ovulation testing, hormone analysis, ultrasound examinations, and semen analysis are conducted to identify underlying causes.

2.Timed Intercourse and Drug Therapy

Ovulation-inducing agents and hormone treatments are used to promote natural ovulation and increase the likelihood of pregnancy.

3.Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Prepared sperm is directly introduced into the uterus to enhance the chance of fertilization.

4.In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) / Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

After oocyte retrieval, fertilization is performed outside the body, and resulting embryos are cultured.
Cryopreservation may be conducted when appropriate.

5.Embryo Transfer and Pregnancy Testing

Cultured embryos are transferred to the uterus, followed by pregnancy confirmation.
